You know those ridiculous non-binding advisory votes that can take up an entire page of your ballot? They always say something like ‘The legislature passed a twenty five cent per million dollar revenue tax on geese imports, should this be maintained or repealed?’
Here’s what the Northwest Progressive Institute has to say about these votes: “You are being shown these ‘advisory votes’ because an individual named Tim Eyman created a scheme many years ago to fill up our ballots with anti-tax propaganda anytime the Legislature acts to increase state revenue…Regardless of how you vote on ‘advisory votes,’ state law will not be changed.”
In 2017 alone, these advisory votes cost Washington taxpayers nearly $3 million in additional printing and administrative fees!
Now, there’s finally a bill in Washington’s state legislature that will eliminate these wasteful, meaningless votes. Let’s make sure our legislators know we’re FOR shorter ballots, and AGAINST Tim Eyman.
