Daily action for Friday, January 6th, 2022
On Thursday, January 5th, President Biden announced a far-reaching crackdown on people who seek refuge at the border with Mexico, dramatically expanding restrictions on asylum in the most aggressive effort of his administration to discourage migrants from crossing into the United States. These measures include complete denial of asylum for people from Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and Haiti (most of whom face dire conditions in their countries) who cross the Mexican border without authorization between official ports of entry.
These new restrictions signal a further continuation of cruel and regressive Trump-era immigration policies that President Biden had promised to reform when elected.
ACTION: Tell your congressional representatives to take action against these policies and legislate humane immigration reform!

“Hello, my name is {NAME} and I am a constituent of Seattle, {ZIP}. I am calling regarding President Biden’s recent inhumane immigration crackdown that would further disqualify thousands of asylum-seekers from safety in the US. These measures are a humanitarian disgrace and a continuation of Trump-era policies that abuse the human rights of those escaping violence and seeking a better life for their families. I urge you to condemn President Biden’s announcements and work to legislate, to provide sufficient resources at the border and to fix the immigration system that everyone agrees is broken. People around the world are counting on you to do the right thing. Thank you.”
