Direct support for migrants and refugees in Tukwila

Official Daily Action for Friday, February 9, 2024

For the past year, hundreds of asylum seekers have been living in tents or sleeping on mats at Riverton Park United Methodist Church in Tukwila. Cold weather, changes in the city ordinances, lack of affordable housing options, and a broken immigration system have been making this situation more and more untenable. There is an urgent need for direct support now. You can donate funds directly to RPUMC at this link.

Or support one of several mutual aid organizations that have been raising funds and collecting donations to feed and provide hotel rooms to migrants, including Super Familia and South King County/Eastside Mutual Aid.

If you would like to make a direct donation of needed items, the Riverton Park United Methodist Church is currently asking for:

Food

  • Rice
  • Peanut Butter
  • Top Ramen
  • Paper plates

Hygiene

  • Adult wipes
  • Women’s period pads
  • Razors
  • Deodorant
  • Shampoo
  • Black contractor bags/large trash bags

Baby

  • Baby wipes
  • Diapers, size 5 and 6

Clothing and Accessories

  • Men’s Belts
  • Shower Shoes (flip flops)
  • Umbrellas

You can drop off items from the list at the Response Donation Center inside the church located at 3118 S 140th St. Tukwila, 98168, between 10 and 3 Tuesday to Saturday. PLEASE DO NOT DROP OFF ANY ITEMS NOT ON THE LIST. If you cannot make it to Tukwila but want to donate items, email Liz for her address to drop off your items in SE Seattle: [email protected]

BONUS from the Faith Action Network: Send an email to your legislators about a budget proviso for $25 million allocation from the state’s general fund for fiscal year 2025 that will enable the state Office of Refugee and Immigrant Assistance to partner with nonprofits, offering essential services to newly arrived individuals in the U.S. and Washington who are ineligible for federal resettlement aids, including housing, food, transportation, legal, educational, and employment assistance: https://actionnetwork.org/letters/2024-wa-state-legislative-advocacy?source=direct_link&
