Urge Congress to Pass the Afghan Adjustment Act

Official Daily Action for Tuesday, August 16, 2022

August 15th marks exactly one year since the Taliban took control over Afghanistan as international forces and funds were withdrawn from the country. 97% of the population has fallen into poverty. The U.S. government froze Afghan assets valued at $9 billion and even awarded $7 billion of the Afghan national reserves to families of 9/11 victims, money that belongs to Afghan people.

The United States bears much responsibility for the current conditions in Afghanistan and we MUST step up and respond to the humanitarian crisis. Project ANAR (Afghan Network for Advocacy & Resources) is currently advocating for the Afghan Adjustment Act, a bipartisan piece of legislation which would offer a pathway to legal status for the tens of thousands of Afghans left in limbo since their evacuation last year. Today’s daily action is to call your elected officials in Congress and urge them to pass this legislation now.
