On Sunday, Josh Marshall, the founder of Talking Points Memo, wrote an opinion column for the New York Times where he laid out his argument for how Democrats can upend the historical precedents of midterm defeat in order to retain the House, grow their Senate majority, enact President Biden’s sweeping domestic agenda, and preserve the legal right to an abortion for every person in America:
“Give us the House and two more senators, and we will make Roe law in January 2023.”
Marshall’s argument sounds compelling, and—frankly—it’s the best overarching message we’ve heard for Democrats this fall. It’s certainly better than the eye roll-inducing “Democrats deliver,” which thankfully was shelved after disastrous focus group-testing.
Unfortunately, our Senators have not gotten the message yet. According to Marshall:
“TPM Reader AB was told by staffers in the offices of Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray that neither has taken a public stance on the issue, that Cantwell, according to a staffer, ‘supports a talking filibuster.’”
This is not good enough. Today, let’s CALL (or email, but preferably call) our Senators and tell them to abolish the filibuster to save abortion rights.

Hi, my name is {NAME}, and I’m a constituent in {CITY, ZIP}. I understand that the Senator is currently not willing to publicly say that she will abolish the filibuster in order to save people’s right to an abortion. I need the Senator to understand that we are looking to her as a leader on this issue. We need to hear the Senator say that she will vote to abolish the filibuster and make Roe law in January 2023 if Democrats hold the House and add two more Senate seats.
