OFFICIAL DAILY ACTION FOR Friday, July 17th
Facing a budget shortfall, King County plans to lay off 200 — and possibly as many as 450 — transit workers. At the same time, King County Executive Dow Constantine is trying to halt the county’s tentative contract agreement that was approved in April by 94% of the voters in the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 587. We cannot allow the layoffs of these essential workers or the reduction of Metro services. Instead, we should urge King County to use its $258 million rainy-day fund to meet the shortfall.
ACTION: Contact King County Council to Stop Metro Layoffs and Pass the ATU Contract

“Hello, my name is [name] and I live in [city, zip]. I’ve read a news report that King County plans to lay off 200 Metro workers and am disappointed at plans to lay off essential workers during a global pandemic. King County Metro provides a vital transportation service that many of us rely on and the County should instead use the $258 million rainy-day fund to meet the budget shortfall.
In addition, please pass the ATU contract that was already approved by 94% of voters in the transit union. Metro is an essential service and we need to be funding it properly.”
