No War with Iran

Official Daily Action for Wednesday May 15, 2019

Donald Trump and his war cabinet seem to be itching for a new war with Iran. First, the Trump administration exited the Iran nuclear deal. Then, they mounted an Iraq War-style PR campaign to prime the public. Now, they’re trying to provoke a reaction from Iran.

For those who recall the lead-in to the Iraq War, this all probably feels pretty familiar. But history must not repeat itself. It’s essential that Congress use its powers to stop this march to war.

Action: Call your Members of Congress and ask them to stop Trump from starting a war with Iran

  • Senator Patty Murray: DC 202-224-2621; Seattle 206-553-5545

  • Senator Maria Cantwell: DC 202-224-3441; Seattle 206-220-6400

  • Rep. Pramila Jayapal: DC 202-225-3106; Seattle 206-674-0040

  • Rep. Adam Smith: DC 202-225-8901; Renton 425-793-5180

Script

“Hello, I’m [name] from [city, zip]. I’m very concerned about the possibility of a new war with Iran.

Trump foolishly violated the nuclear deal and put it in danger of falling apart, even though Iran was complying and it was keeping us all safer. Now National Security Adviser John Bolton and the war cabinet are escalating tensions. It feels a lot like the lead-up to the Iraq War.

Will [Rep/Senator] co-sponsor [H.R. 2454/S.1039] and issue a public statement urging diplomacy, not war with Iran? “

Background

Bonus Action

Yesterday, Alabama passed a bill that will outlaw almost all abortions, and punish women and doctors with long prison sentences. It even punishes people who help women go to another state for an abortion. The governor is widely expected to sign it.
