Official Daily Action for Wednesday, February 19, 2025
Please take the following one-click actions before Friday’s deadline to pass state bills out of committee. This should only take 5-10 minutes!
From Healthcare is a Human Right:
“In our rapidly consolidating health care system, prices keep going up as providers and hospitals charge whatever they want for services. These costs continually get shifted onto patients and workers. Some hospitals are charging over 700% of what Medicare pays for some hospital services – while only paying 88% of what Medicare pays for behavioral health services. SB 5083 would cap what carriers pay in PEBB/SEBB plans for inpatient and outpatient hospital services and HCA calculates that the bill will result in moderate cost savings of $134m the first year and $200-$250m by 2030.”

More about WA Low Income Housing Alliance’s priority bills:
“HB 1195 would prevent local governments from blocking supportive, transitional, and emergency housing and shelter from being built in our communities.
HB 1380 would prevent local governments from enacting extreme measures to criminalize homelessness and require that local governments use a standard that considers the impact on those experiencing homelessness, with the goal of preventing draconian measures while still allowing local governments to regulate dangerous behavior.
HB 1858 would end an exemption in who pays for the document recording fees that fund homeless services across our state. For too long, financial institutions have not had to pay the fee when they sell a mortgage to other financial institutions.”
