Sen. Bob Menenendez (D-NJ) was indicted last week on bribery charges, including accepting cash, gold bars, and even a Mercedes-Benz car in exchange for lobbying for foreign aid to Egypt, and pressuring the Justice Department to drop the prosecution of his business partners.

Let’s be frank: we are embarrassed by the tepid reaction from Mendendez’s Democratic colleagues. As of the publishing of this action, only Sen. John Fetterman and Sen. Sherrod Brown have publicly called on Menendez to resign. How can we fight corruption from Trump and his co-conspirators if we are reluctant to hold one of our own accountable? John Fetterman put it this way:

“He’s entitled to the presumption of innocence under our system, but he is not entitled to continue to wield influence over national policy, especially given the serious and specific nature of the allegations. I hope he chooses an honorable exit and focuses on his trial.”

Call your Senators and ask them to do the right thing.
