Our speaker for the evening will be Larry Behrendt of Indivisible Whidbey, who recently attended a regional convening hosted by Georgetown’s Institute for Constitutional Advocacy and Protection (ICAP) in Portland, Oregon. The event focused on political violence in the Pacific Northwest, and Larry will be sharing his insights and experiences with us.

During the meeting, we’ll explore the multifaceted nature of right-wing political violence, including:

  • The growth of paramilitary militia groups

  • Threats to election workers and elected officials

  • Increased ownership of military-style weapons

  • Mainstreaming of violent rhetoric and imagery in the Republican Party

  • Replatforming of racists on social media

  • MAGA embrace of January 6 insurrectionists as martyrs and heroes

Together, we’ll discuss how we as political progressives can better understand and resist this dangerous trend.
