In 2018, the Washington State Supreme Court ruled our death penalty law unconstitutional, which has meant that no one would be subjected to capital punishment in our state. However, the moral stain of the law has remained on our books… Until now!
This session, the Washington State Legislature voted to remove the remaining references to the death penalty from our state laws. The state Senator from the 43rd district, Jamie Pedersen, who sponsored the bill, described it as “a profound moral statement.”
