Thanks to the good folks at FUSE Washington for today’s action.
Substance abuse is a public health problem that can only be solved through necessary funding for proven approaches like prevention, outreach, and recovery services.
But some lawmakers in the Washington Legislature want to return to criminalizing substance use in Washington by reinstating The War on Drugs policies that have failed for over half a century. They mistakenly think these policies will decrease rates of substance use disorder or reverse the current overdose epidemic.
It’s time to address this health crisis in a way that will actually reduce overdoses and deaths, and treat people currently suffering from substance-abuse disorder. Senator Manka Dhingra has introduced Senate Bill 56241 to create treatment and recovery supports while decriminalizing the drug-possession laws that drive jail-based overdoses and create barriers to the housing and employment that keeps people safe.
Tell lawmakers to reject failed War on Drugs policies, and fund the community healthcare we need. Add your name to the official list of supporters by signing in “Pro” today!
