The following action comes from WA Paramount Duty:
“Across Washington State public schools are facing a worsening budget crisis. Dozens of districts have already cut programs, laid off teachers, and even closed schools. Several districts are under fiscal monitoring by the state. And worse cuts are looming for the next few years — unless the state legislature acts by fully funding our schools as the state constitution requires.
In Seattle Public Schools matters are getting worse. Thanks to underfunding by the state, SPS faces deficits of $100 million each year for at least the next three years. Without new state funding, the district will lay off more teachers, make class sizes even bigger, eliminate more classes and programs, and close numerous schools. The results of all this will be devastating for students. We can’t let this happen.
Will you take a moment and write to your state legislators and urge them to step up and amply fund our public schools, as the state constitution requires, by taxing the rich and eliminating the unconscionable cap on special education funding?”
