OFFICIAL DAILY ACTION FOR AUGUST 5TH, 2022
The following action is adapted from Win Without War, an anti-war, foreign policy-building organization. Read more about the organization and their work at: https://winwithoutwar.org/
Twenty years ago, Congress authorized the invasion of Iraq, giving its green light to a military intervention that has since destroyed the lives of millions of people. To do so, Congress passed the Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) Against Iraq Resolution of 2002. In 2021, House Representative Barbara Lee introduced HR 256, a resolution to finally repeal the AUMF. HR 256 passed the House with huge bipartisan support, however it is yet to be voted on by the Senate.
The so-called War on Terror has already cost trillions of dollars and countless innocent lives. We have a unique chance to move things in the right direction by getting the U.S. Senate to repeal its AUMF once and for all.

Script:
“Hello, my name is {NAME} and I am a constituent of Seattle, {ZIP}. After 20 years of turmoil, HR 256, a resolution to end the authorization of military force in Iraq, has finally passed the House and is ready to be voted on in the Senate. Keeping the AUMF in place is not only unnecessary but dangerous as Donald Trump showed when his administration used the 2002 AUMF to imply Congress had consented to the assassination of Iranian general Qasem Soleimani. Considering the potential for abuse, we urge you to vote YES on the effort to repeal the 2002 Authorization of Use of Military Force and put a formal end to the Iraq War.”
