Seattle conducted another inhumane sweep of an unhoused encampment outside City Hall Wednesday morning. The sweep interfered with efforts of social services to connect people in the encampment to support and transitional housing, and occurred while Seattle still lacks the capacity to shelter all the unhoused people in the city. The city continues to simply chase encampments from block to block without solving the problem.
Today’s action is to again tell Seattle to Stop the Sweeps:

“Hi, my name is NAME and I live in District [NUMBER]. I am contacting you to say that I do not support encampment sweeps and to ask you to do everything in your power to stop the sweeps in Seattle. I support the demands of Stop the Sweeps Seattle: stop the sweeps and provide services for the unhoused. Sweeps are inhumane – they destroy the community and the property of extremely vulnerable people, while doing nothing to remedy the problem of people living unhoused. Instead of sweeping encampments, we should be working toward permanent, supportive housing.”
