Last Thursday, Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts stated that he would not accept a watered-down infrastructure bill that removed popular, critical elements from the legislation in the name of a misguided attempt to be ‘bipartisan,’ quipping:
“No climate, no deal.”
In addition to Senator Markey, eight other Senate Democrats have signaled their intention to vote against any legislation that does not address the climate crisis. Unfortunately, neither of our Senators have gotten on board yet. We need to make sure they hear loud and clear from us, their constituents, that we expect them to tackle the climate crisis as of this plan.
Today’s action: Tell our Senators “no climate, no deal”

Hi, my name is {NAME}, and I live in {CITY, ZIP}. I have heard that several Senate Democrats have vowed to vote against any infrastructure bill that does not address the climate crisis, however I am disappointed that you have not joined with Senator Markey and the others on this yet. Senate Democrats have the majority and they need to use it to ensure that we have a safe, sustainable ecosystem. Don’t let misguided beliefs about bipartisanship get in the way of doing what’s right. I want to hear you publicly say “no climate, no deal.”
Thanks,
{NAME}

We have an amazing program for you this month. First we’re going to learn about Real Rent Duwamish from Liberty Harrington, one of the organizers who helped create it. Why was it created and what issues does it hope to solve? Next, Seattle is the wealthiest city in the history of the world, yet King County has the country’s 3rd highest houseless population. Nikkita Oliver will break down the local organizing efforts they’re involved with and what you can do to support them.
Liberty Harrington – (she/her) A lead organizer for the 2017 Seattle Womxn’s March, Liberty is currently an active volunteer with the Coalition for Anti-Racist Whites (CARW). Liberty has done amazing work organizing with our local native communities and helped organize Real Rent Duwamish.
Nikkita Oliver – (they/them) is a Seattle-based creative, community organizer, abolitionist, educator, and attorney. Working at the intersections of arts, law, education, and community organizing Nikkita strives to create experiences which draw us closer to our humanity and invites us to imagine what we hope to see in the future. Nikkita is currently a candidate for Seattle City Council Position Nine. And Nikkita has earned an enthusiastic endorsement from Seattle Indivisible.
