Official Daily Action for Friday, February 5th, 2020
Last week, Seattle City Council unanimously passed a law that mandated a $4 an hour raise for grocery store workers. Mayor Durkan signed it into law and it went into effect this past Wednesday. Two Northwest industry trade groups have filed lawsuits against Seattle over the new law. PCC CEO Suzy Monford wrote an open letter to Mayor Durkan opposing the bill, having slashed hazard pay last July. We’re in the midst of a global pandemic and grocery store employees are frontline essential workers. Our essential workers deserve hazard pay for the dangerous and essential work they are doing. Today’s action is to sign on to UCFW21’s call to support essential PCC workers’ demand for hazard pay.
