Before we get to today’s action, we want to invite you to attend our monthly meeting on July 1, where we are continuing our discussion of racial equity and police accountability by taking a deep dive into defunding the police with featured speaker, former NFL player and current political consultant Riall Johnson.

Last year, Senator Mark Warner, the ranking member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, introduced a bill that would require Presidential candidates to disclose any foreign election help that they had received. Senate Republicans repeatedly blocked the bill, with Sen. Blackburn going so far as to call it a “blatant political stunt” when she blocked it in June 2019. Senator Warner has kept fighting to get his bill passed through the Senate, most recently attempting to insert it into this year’s National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), one of Congress’s ‘must-pass’ government funding bills.
Unfortunately, Senate Republicans are going to continue to do everything they can to make sure that Presidential candidates are not required to disclose foreign intervention in our election, and that’s where you come in.
Today’s Action: Tell our members of Congress to fight for foreign interference disclosure
Today we want you to contact your Representative, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE REPRESENTED BY ADAM SMITH, because he is the lead person in the House on the NDAA, and both of your Senators.
Contact your Representative:
-
Rep. Pramila Jayapal: https://jayapal.house.gov/contact/
-
Rep. Adam Smith: https://adamsmith.house.gov/contact/
Sample script for your Representative:
Hi, my name is {NAME}, and I live in {CITY, ZIP}. I heard that Senator Mark Warner has been fighting to include a provision in this year’s National Defense Authorization Act to require Presidential candidates to disclose foreign election help (originally called the FIRE Act), but Senate Republicans have been blocking Senator Warner’s efforts at every turn. Please fight to make sure that Senator Warner’s FIRE Act is included in the House’s NDAA bill. Foreign election interference shouldn’t be normalized, and we should have laws preventing it.
Thanks,
{NAME}
Contact both Senators:
-
Sen. Maria Cantwell: https://www.cantwell.senate.gov/contact/email/form
-
Sen. Patty Murray: https://www.murray.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/contactme
