The following action is adapted from Jon Pincus and Indivisible Washington Plus:
The Senate Judiciary Committee is considering the EARN IT Act this week. We have asked you to stop this bill’s advance before: the EARN IT Act (S. 3398) attempts to curb child sexual abuse material on the internet – but it would undercut key protections on Internet speech, and sex workers (along with privacy advocates) are leading the resistance. According to the Electronic Freedom Foundation (EFF), the bill would give Attorney General Bill Barr the power to compel service providers to break encryption and violate their users’ privacy to avoid liability.
Action: Tell your Senators to oppose the EARN IT Act, and then tell your friends who live in states with Senators on the Judiciary committee to tell their Senators to oppose it as well.
States with Senators on the Judiciary Committee: California, Idaho, Hawaii, Texas, Illinois, Louisiana, Iowa, New Jersey, Utah, South Carolina, Connecticut, Tennessee

Script (adapted from Hacking/Hustling and EFF):
“As your constituent, I’m urging you to OPPOSE the EARN IT Act, S. 3398. This bill would compromise the security of people around the world, especially sex workers, LGBTQ people, and young people. Please do not co-sponsor or support this bill. Instead, publically oppose it. Thank you.”
