Official Daily Action for Wednesday March 27, 2019
The Washington State Senate passed ESSB 5395, which would provide medically accurate sex education, including age-appropriate discussion of orientation, gender, and affirmative consent, to all public school students in Washington State. The State House needs to take up this bill. They held hearings on March 12, but got a lot of pushback from a vocal conservative minority. This is a solid bill, that helps to address issues that face students of all ages, by providing accurate and useful information.
Action: Ask the State House to schedule an executive session on ESSB 5395
Call the Washington State Legislative Hotline at 1-800-562-6000 (TTY for Hearing Impaired 800.833.6388). They will ask for your address, and leave a message for your state legislator.

“Hello. I’m [name] from [city]. I am calling about ESSB 5395, Sex Ed for All Washington. I think it is vitally important for the kids in our state to have accurate, age-appropriate information about sex, reproduction, sexual orientation, gender, and consent. I support this bill, and want the State House to pass it. I understand that the next step is an executive session, where legislators can discuss the bill amongst themselves. I’m asking my representative to please push to schedule that executive session as soon as possible, and do everything they can to get this bill passed. Thank you.”
