This is not a normal weekday action item with calls to make on a specific topic. The action is yours to choose, so pick something you’re passionate about, learn what needs to be done, then go ahead and make it happen.
The 2016 Presidential election wasn’t that long ago. In the blink of an eye the world came in to crystal clear focus. We were all forced to take a long hard look in the mirror both as a nation and as individuals. What could we have done differently? Not just in the immediate run up to the election, but more importantly, what could we have done in the years prior to avoid making Trump’s presidency inevitable?
Trump did win the presidency and absolutely can win again.
It’s unpleasant to think about and here in Seattle it’s almost hard to believe, but we need to stretch beyond our echo chamber and accept that reality if we are to be effective in preventing it. The reason we’re bringing this up now is that recent polling data of various demographics makes a compelling case that Trump would enter the 2020 election as a strong favorite. See the links below. We have also seen a measurable drop-off in participation since the 2018 midterms at meetings, rallies, and with actions.
We understand that 2019 is an off year, but we must fight our own apathy. We must remain engaged. We must continue to resist and persist. People’s lives depend on us. Most of all we must learn from our mistakes. This brings us to the famous quote below (attributed to philosopher George Santayana):
“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it”
One thing we all learned is that if something needs to get done, just do it. If you don’t, perhaps no one will.

Here are some suggestions: There is something you can do almost every day. Continue to listen, learn, and build power so we are ready for 2020.
