Pittsburgh: How you can help

As you may have heard, a gunman with a history of anti-semitism opened fire on the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh yesterday during Shabbat prayers, killing at least 11 people. At the time of this writing, he has been charged with two hate crimes and 11 counts of murder.

While nothing can replace the lives lost, there are some things that we can do to help those most affected.

The shooter made several social media posts criticizing HIAS, a refugee assistance nonprofit with Jewish roots. You can find out about the work they do, and how you can support them at www.hias.org

Several people in the Muslim-American community, including our ally MAPS-AMEN, have been organizing a fundraiser to help the victims and their families with their immediate short-term needs. Though this is a Muslim-led fundraiser, the organizers have invited friends of all faiths to contribute:

Seattle Indivisible Phone Banks

We at Seattle Indivisible now have our OWN 8th district phone bank set up through Indivisible National. It will be live every day from 3pm to 8:30pm, and will be a crucial opportunity to contact voters in the 8th district who may not normally be reached by the campaigns.

If you are interested in making calls from home, please REPLY to [email protected] and we will send you everything you need to get started.

This coming Tuesday night, October 30, is the last weekly Seattle Indivisible meeting before the election – as usual it will be 7pm at the Washington State Labor Council, 321 16th Ave S. This will also be a phone bank! Bring your laptop and we will set you up to make calls
