Action 1: Save the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
Rep. Pramila Jayapal:
DC – 202-225-3106
Seattle – 206-674-0040
or
Rep. Adam Smith:
DC – 202-225-8901
Renton – 425-793-5180
Script
“I’m a constituent of {CONGRESSPERSON’S NAME} calling from {CITY, ZIP}. I want the {CONGRESSMAN|WOMAN} to publicly speak out against HR 620 and HR 1493. These bills would gut enforcement of the ADA. No other civil rights group is forced to wait 180 days to enforce their rights!”
Background
The ADA Education and Reform Act of 2017 (HR 620) and the ADA Lawsuit Clarification Act of 2017 (HR 1493) seek to make it more difficult for persons with disabilities to bring forward complaints against businesses, and remove incentives for businesses to comply. HR 620 even has bipartisan support, making it especially dangerous. We must fight these bills. More information: http://www.aapd.com/category/accessibility/
Action 2: Stop the Republican Takeover of the FDA
Senator Patty Murray:
DC – 202-224-2621
Seattle – 206-553-5545
Script
“I’m a constituent of Senator Murray, calling from {CITY, ZIP}. I want the Senator to reject the nomination of Scott Gottlieb as FDA commissioner.”
Background
The president once again wants the fox to guard the hen house. To head up the agency responsible for ensuring the safety of pharmaceutical products available in the US, he has nominated somebody with extensive ties to the industry. This is not acceptable. Dr. Gottlieb’s confirmation hearing will be on Wednesday. Senator Murray has already expressed concerns, so ask her to vote NO. https://www.help.senate.gov/ranking/newsroom/press/murray-statement-on-meeting-with-fda-commissioner-nominee-scott-gottlieb
