How We Operate

Indivisible All Hands Meeting

All Volunteer Run

Action Focused

Seattle Indivisible is an action-oriented, progressive, non-partisan grassroots organization dedicated to educating, organizing, mobilizing and empowering ordinary Americans to actively engage in our government.

Volunteer Run

We are a registered 501(c)(4) nonprofit corporation run entirely by local volunteers and funded by small local donations. Our actions are informed and inspired by The Indivisible Guide, our Advisory Council, our thousands of dedicated volunteers and fabulous progressive networks–all tirelessly working to protect and further our democracy, our values and our future.

Organizing Principles

Seattle Indivisible believes government should serve the people, and if we want a government that serves us well, then we need to participate. We need to be informed, clearly tell our representatives what we want and expect, help them further our goals, and hold them accountable.

Seattle Indivisible believes our diverse struggles for justice and equity are interrelated, so none of us will live in a just and equitable community until all of us live in a just and equitable community regardless of our gender, race, ethnicity, religion, health, education, wealth, abilities, immigration status or whom we choose to love.

Seattle Indivisible believes collective action is needed to effect meaningful and lasting progressive change. And when working on an issue that primarily impacts a certain community, we should seek input and take our lead from that directly impacted community. These are key reasons we have an Advisory Council comprised of diverse community leaders and we organize in progressive networks such as the Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network (WAISN), the Healthcare Is A Human Right—Washington coalition (HCHR), Washington’s state legislative Racial Equity Team (RET) and the nationwide Indivisible movement.

Regular Meetings

We hold monthly meetings for our members and guests, featuring notable speakers on critical, timely topics on which we plan to mobilize. We also briefly report on Seattle Indivisible projects and upcoming events. These monthly meeting are on the first Wednesday of every month at 6:30PM.

Featured Speakers

These meetings almost always have notable featured speakers from outside of our organization. See our Events Calendar for upcoming speakers.

Actions

From rallies and protest marches to town halls and activist fairs, Seattle Indivisible organizes special events throughout the city and region. Our committee and team meetings, actions and events happen daily. See our Calendar or Facebook page for upcoming general meetings and public events. And sign-up to receive a Daily Action suggestion by email.

Meetings with Congressional Representatives

Seattle Indivisible stays in close contact with our elected representatives in Congress: Rep Pramila Jaypal (WA-07) and Rep Adam Smith (WA-09), and Sen Patty Murray and Sen Maria Cantwell and their staffs. We organize meetings between our members and their respective staffs every month, so we know what they are working on and how we can help, they know what we expect, and we can hold them accountable. See the Calendar for upcoming meetings and follow our Facebook page for reports and updates on our work with our representatives in Congress.

Operating Structure

Operations are governed by our Board of Directors , which is informed by our Advisory Council. The work of the organization is carried out through a number of committees and teams. Each standing committee and team consists of one or more Board member working with a group of volunteers, though teams working on individual projects or special events may be led by individual volunteers whose talent, creativity and enthusiasm never ceases to amaze us.  Seattle Indivisible Committees and Teams.

  • Elections committee works to turn out the progressive vote, by organizing letter-writing, postcarding, phone and text banking, voter registration and other election events. Activities organized by this committee are generally open to anyone who wants to participate.
  • Issue Advocacy committee identifies both continuing and emergent issues that merit our support, and pursues appropriate avenues to help advocate for progressive positions on these issues.
  • Communications committee shapes our messages and communicates with our members, as well as with our members of Congress and other elected representatives, using a wide variety of methods and media.
  • Fundraising committee works to secure donations needed to pay for the various goods and services used to sustain the operations of the organization.
  • Daily Actions team is responsible for identifying one new action each day that our members can take in order to influence our elected representatives to act on our behalf, and on the behalf of all members of our community. The activities of all of these groups are tightly interrelated, and committee and team members interact collaboratively with each other on a regular basis.
  • Rallies/MoC team organizes our regular meetings with the staff of our Members of Congress (MoC) and U.S. Senators, and on occasion with our MoCs and Senators themselves. Immediately before our regular public meetings with our MoC or Senate staffers, this team organizes a rally with informative guest speakers outside the Seattle Federal Building. These rallies and staff meetings usually take place on Tuesday afternoons and are often referred to as Seattle Indivisible’s “Resist Trump Tuesday.” Our topics vary widely, with a special focus on lifting up voices and perspectives difficult to hear through the daily noise.
