Unregulated hospital mergers have led to unaffordable prices and diminishing patient choices. Unlike nearby states, such as California and Oregon, health entity consolidations in Washington receive minimal oversight. The Keep Our Care Act (KOCA) would provide a comprehensive system of public oversight to safeguard access to existing services and ensure Washingtonians can access quality care where they live, regardless of their identity, zip code, or medical needs.

In the 2023 Legislative Session, KOCA made it farther than most anticipated, thanks largely to Washingtonians contacting their legislators and letting them know it is a priority. We can pass the Keep Our Care Act in 2024 but we need to continue to build our momentum.
