Today marks Juneteenth National Independence Day, officially a federal holiday since 2021. Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States, when Union troops arrived in Texas and informed the last remaining enslaved individuals of their freedom, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It is a day of celebration, reflection, and remembrance of the struggles and achievements of African Americans and their ongoing fight for equality and justice.
The Northwest African American Museum is hosting the final day of their three day celebration on Monday, and has a calendar of activities listed here: https://www.naamnw.org/juneteenth
Happy Hour Tuesday
Join Seattle Indivisible volunteers and organizers for an informal happy hour at Optimism Brewing! This is an informal get-together, get-to-know-each-other, catch-up, and chat about how to get involved – look for an Indivisible hat, and possibly a table sign. When weather permits, we’ll start at an outside table.
Looking forward to seeing you, and please introduce yourself if you’re new to the group!
