Daily Action for Tuesday, April 26th, 2022
Sound Transit is currently working on the West Seattle Ballard Link Extension and will be building an entirely new station in the Chinatown-International District (C-ID) to service this route. Under consideration are locations on 4th Ave S and 5th Ave S. Locations on either street will result in road closures and disruptions to businesses and residents, but the 5th Ave locations risk displacing up to nineteen businesses compared to 4th Ave’s five to eight. Construction is expected to take five to eleven years and plugging up 5th Ave would be hugely disruptive to the residents, businesses and communities in the C-ID. Today’s daily action is to leave a comment on the West Seattle and Ballard Link Extensions project and urge them to build the station on 4th Ave S to minimize disruption to the C-ID.

Hi, my name is [NAME] and I live in Seattle. A multi-year construction project of a new Link station along the Chinatown-International District’s 5th Ave S would be hugely disruptive to the neighborhood and community. Up to nineteen businesses in the historic core of the C-ID would be at risk for displacement, not to mention a disruption of access to landmarks like the Chinatown Gate and Hing Hay Park. I urge you to protect the cultural and historical importance and CURRENT COMMUNITIES in the Chinatown-International District by staying away from 5th Ave S options.
