* Thanks to the WA State Labor Council for this action idea *
On Monday, Starbucks announced that they plan to close the Capitol Hill location. The official line is that this decision is due to “security incidents”, but the workers tell a different story.
They say that Starbucks refused to take obvious security measures but, a couple months after the location unionized, they were encouraged to start making reports and calling 911 for even small incidents. Then, instead of hiring a security guard like the workers were requesting, the closure was announced.
This same process has happened at several stores in Seattle and more across the country. It is a union-busting technique, and it must be stopped.
Action: Email Starbucks Directors, Sign the Pledge, Contribute to a Hardship Fund
Workers United Seattle is urging all to show their support for Starbucks workers by taking one or more of the following actions:
-
Send a direct message to Starbucks District Manager Taylor Pringle ([email protected]) and his boss Regional Director Nica Tovey ([email protected]) to tell them what you think of their actions in your own words. This link has a pre-written email for you to add to.
-
Sign the pledge “No contract, no coffee!”: https://crm.broadstripes.com/ctf/SJID0H
-
Contribute to the hardship fund. A GoFundMe hardship fund has been set up to help Starbucks workers who have been retaliated against or had their store closed. https://www.gofundme.com/f/PNWStarbucksWorkerRelief
