On Friday, the President of the United States risked inciting violence against Rep. Ilhan Omar by endorsing the false claim that she downplayed the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in a tweet.
Rep. Ilhan Omar’s words were taken out of context to try to make it seem like she was downplaying the significance of 9/11. Ironically, she was speaking about how 9/11 is sometimes used to portray Muslims negatively.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Sunday that the U.S. Capitol Police and the House sergeant-at-arms “are conducting a security assessment to safeguard Congresswoman [Ilhan] Omar, her family and her staff” after the tweet.
Rep. Omar is in very real danger. This can never become acceptable.

We have not heard from Rep. Smith or either of our Senators. The President should not use his platform this way. When he endangers a fellow Member of Congress, we need to hear loud and clear from our MoCs that this will not stand.
ACTION: Thank Rep. Jayapal & and Gov. Inslee AND tell the rest to get off the sidelines!

“Hello, I’m [name] from [city, zip]. I am calling to ask [MoC] to speak out against the Presidents dangerous tweets about Rep. Omar. Rep. Omar has had to increase her personal security and is getting death threats. The President has gone too far. I expect my leaders in Congress to publicly state as much.”
