Official Daily Action for Tuesday, November 27th:
Last Friday the Administration was forced to release (and promptly rejected) a comprehensive and terrifying assessment of the impact of climate change on the US. The report confirms drastic effects in the near and long term, touching almost every aspect of life.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and 13 members of Congress are pushing House Democrats to rise to this challenge by supporting a “Green New Deal.” Their proposed resolution would establish a select committee tasked with developing a plan to transition to a carbon-neutral economy and beyond, with the ultimate goal of “economic and environmental justice and equality.”
Unfortunately, Representatives Jayapal and Smith—strong progressives who understand the threats of climate change—haven’t signed on yet to Ocasio-Cortez’ proposal. Please call them today, to urge them to join the chorus demanding a Green New Deal.
ACTION: Ask Your Rep to Support the Green New Deal Resolution
Rep. Pramila Jayapal: DC – 202-225-3106; Seattle – 206-674-0040
Rep. Adam Smith: DC – 202-225-8901; Renton – 425-793-5180
Suggested Script:
“Hi my name is [NAME] and I am a constituent calling from [CITY, ZIP]. I am calling to ask that Representative [NAMEl sign on to the Green New Deal resolution, with Representative Ocasio Cortez and others. I know Representative [NAME] has been a champion of progressive causes and understands the overwhelming threats of climate change. Given the National Climate Assessment released last Friday, we must put the Green New Deal on the new Democratic majority’s agenda—to show that Congressional Democrats are willing to stand up for young people and sane climate policy. Please ask [NAME] to sign on immediately.”
