On this Memorial Day, many in our country are unaware of the service that immigrants and undocumented veterans have given to our country:
- About 10,644 non-citizens currently serve in the U.S. military
- About 230 U.S. veterans have been deported after serving
- Overall, an estimated 65,000 immigrants served in the military as of 2013, and about 20% of medal of honor recipients were born abroad
Two quick actions you can take:
1) Spread awareness of these facts on social media and/or to friends and family members who may have anti-immigrant sentiments
2) Email your Representatives (https://jayapal.house.gov/contact/email or https://adamsmith.house.gov/contact/email-me) and ask them to support Rep. Joaquín Castro’s efforts to stop deportation of Veterans, and support citizenship for those who have served our country.
