Official Daily Actions for Friday, December 5, 2025
1. From our partners as Washington Low Income Housing Alliance: With Governor Bob Ferguson’s recent statement about the state budget outlook, it’s more important than ever that we advocate for progressive revenue measures to protect working people and our most vulnerable communities. Representative Shaun Scott has proposed a measure to generate additional revenue from the companies with the highest paid employees, and we need to tell lawmakers now and throughout the upcoming session to pass budget measures that serve the residents of our state.

2. Thank Congressmembers Jayapal and Smith for introducing the Dignity for Detained Immigrants Act. This legislation proposes to enact oversight and guardrails on immigration detention, and includes a number of necessary provisions: repeal mandatory detention; prohibit the detention of families and children in “family detention”; create a presumption of release and impose a higher burden of proof to detain primary caregivers and vulnerable populations; phase out the use of private detention facilities and jails over a three-year period; mandate the DHS Inspector General conduct unannounced inspections with meaningful penalties for failure to comply with standards; and require DHS to admit Members of Congress to detention facilities for unannounced inspections.
